- Wool pile
- A Beni Ourain rug is handmade by Berber women in the Atlas mountains. The natural undyed wool of the pile gives it an off-white or creamy white base and the rug often has a pattern in darker wool. Each rug takes weeks to produce by the skilled artisans. It is made with a signature double knot technique which makes the rug very supple. It has been admired by modernists such as Aalvar Aalto, Frank Lloyd Wright and Le Corbusier, and it fits very well with Scandinavian modern interiors.
